Jung Kim

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Jung began her photography and printing studies at age 14 and fell in love with film and the darkroom. Jung attended Parsons School of Design in New York where she began photographing her musician and artist friends. From early 2000, while working as a Photo Research Editor at TEEN  VOGUE and VOGUE, Jung spent most evenings in her neighborhood music venues on the Lower East Side where she discovered and photographed indie musicians and bands, often joining them on the road. Jung gives the viewer a voyeuristic access into the backstage life of musicians on tour inspired by one of her photography heroes Jim Marshall. Her most notable collaboration is with the legendary musician and artist Daniel Johnston who she documented from 2008-2019 from which a photography book titled here (2013) was published and another titled IS ALWAYS was released in March 2023 at SXSW festival.

Jung currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
